SUMMARY:bwNetFlow: A Customizable Multi-Tenant Flow Processing Platform fo
 r Transit Providers
DESCRIPTION:Workshop\n\nbwNetFlow: A Customizable Multi-Tenant Flow Proces
sing Platform for Transit Providers\n\nNägele, Hauser, Bradatsch, Wesner\n
\nIn times of increasing bandwidth, network operators strive for increased
visibility of their\nnetwork's utilization as well as an indication of th
e legitimacy of traffic processed across network\nnodes. Additionally, the
detection and mitigation of illegitimate traffic such as denial of servic
e\nattacks remains a current and persistently active field of research.\n\
nFlow-based network monitoring can provide this information live from any
network interface.\nThis paper introduces a flow processing platform meant
to receive flow information from border\ninterfaces and distribute the ac
quired information to specialized applications. Transit\nproviders deployi
ng our platform can use this information directly, but also provide all\ni
nterested customers or network entities with the specific subset concernin
g them.\n\nBetween collecting and redistributing the flow information, our
platform offers different\nmethods of enrichment using a variety of sourc
es, allowing for high-level views incorporating\nadditional data compared
to plain Netflow records. However, a provided tool can reencode and\nreexp
ort standard Netflow to ensure compatibility and allow for seamless integr
ation of\ncustomer-specific streams into preexisting setups.\n\nThis platf
orm's components allow the enrichment, division and anonymization of flow
data to a\nnumber of highly customized streams for any type of application
 , either on a customer-specific\nor a network-wide provider level. Applica
tions include the conversion of flow data for\ntime-series databases and t
he accompanying dashboards, the detection of DDoS attacks or other\nhigh-t
raffic situation on any network level, the identification of faulty networ
k routing\npolicies, or any other use case conceivable on regular flow dat
a, but within an arbitrary\nnetwork scope.\n\nTag: Workshop Reg Pass, Big
