SUMMARY:Keynote 3: The Extreme-Scale Scientific Software Stack and Its Pro
mise for the Exascale Computing Era
DESCRIPTION:Workshop\n\nKeynote 3: The Extreme-Scale Scientific Software S
tack and Its Promise for the Exascale Computing Era\n\nHeroux\n\nOpen sour
ce, community-developed reusable scientific software represents a large an
d growing body of capabilities. Linux distributions, vendor software stac
ks and individual disciplined software product teams provide the scientifi
c computing community with usable holistic software environments containin
g core open source software components. At the same time, new software ca
pabilities make it into these distributions in a largely ad hoc fashion.\n
\nThe Extreme-scale Scientific Software Stack (E4S),first announced in Nov
ember 2018, along with its community-organized scientific software develop
ment kits (SSDKs), is a new community effort to create lightweight cross-t
eam coordination of scientific software development, delivery and deployme
nt and a set of support tools an processes targeted at improving scientifi
c software quality via improved practices, policy, testing and coordinatio
n.\n\nE4S (https://e4s.io) is an open architecture effort, welcoming teams
that are developing technically compatible and high-quality products to p
articipate in the community. E4S and the SSDKs are sponsored by the US De
partment of Energy Exascale Computing Project (ECP), driven by our need to
effectively develop, test, deliver and deploy our open source software pr
oducts on next generation platform to the scientific community.\n\nIn this
presentation, we introduce E4S, discuss its design and implementation goa
ls and show examples of success and challenges so far. We will also discu
ss our connection with other key community efforts we rely upon for our su
ccess.\n\nTag: Workshop Reg Pass, Algorithms, Scalable Computing\n\nRegist
