SUMMARY:1st Annual Workshop on Large-Scale Experiment-in-the-Loop-Computin
 g (XLOOP)
DESCRIPTION:Workshop\n\n1st Annual Workshop on Large-Scale Experiment-in-t
 he-Loop-Computing (XLOOP)\n\nWozniak, Schwarz\n\nContinued advancement in
computational power and high-speed networking is enabling a new model of s
cientific experiment, experiment-in-the-loop computing (EILC). In this mo
del, one or more high-fidelity simulations are run as data is collected fr
om observational and experimental sources. At the same time, the amount a
nd complexity of data generated by simulations and by observational and ex
perimental sources, such as distributed sensor networks and large-scale sc
ientific user facilities, continues to increase. Several research and deve
lopment challenges are posed by this paradigm, many of which are independe
nt of the scientific application domain. New algorithms, including artifi
cial intelligence and machine learning algorithms, to merge simulation ens
embles and experimental data sets must be developed. High performance dat
a management and transfer techniques must be developed to control the ense
mbles and move simulated and observed data sets. Workflows must be constr
ucted with high-quality provenance metadata to enable post-analysis and im
provement of the computing solution. The Workshop on Large-scale Experime
nt-in-the-Loop Computing (XLOOP 2019) will be a unique opportunity to prom
ote this cross-cutting, interdisciplinary topic area. We invite papers, p
resentations, and participants from both the physical and computer science
s.\n\nTag: Workshop Reg Pass, Experimental Datasets, High-fidelity Simulat
