Bipin Kumar is a senior scientist at High Performance Computing Systems (HPCS) division of Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune. His background is mainly in computational science. He graduated with a science degree with a major in mathematics. Thereafter, he obtained an M.Sc. in mathematics from IIT Kanpur, India and MS research in math from NUS, Singapore with thesis in scientific computing. His motivation in computational science took him toward further study in this area, and he did a PhD from School of Computing at Dublin City University, Ireland where he has worked on his thesis related to high performance computing. Apart from these studies, he worked about 5 years as a postdoctoral researcher in Germany including 1 year at Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, Hamburg. He has vast experience in parallel numerical algorithms, high performance computing and Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) for cloud micro-physics.
