Biography
Dr. Simon Smart is a Senior Analyst at ECMWF, and works on the large-scale data handling and storage systems for meteorological data. This work particularly involves the scalability aspects of data handling in large meteorological workflows taking into account the upcoming scientific improvements and technological changes in the medium term. Prior to this he worked at the Max Planck institute for Solid State Research working to improve the scalability and scientific scope of the computational chemistry code NECI. Simon is particularly interested in how novel technologies and changes of scale in hardware impact how we will do science on computers.
